It's pretty easy to tell the difference between something that's damaging my body and a good clean effort if I really focus on the experience. Rather than simply deny it (which does end up hurting), I dive into the sensation and embrace it until there's some clarity. It does take some practice, but this seems to work for me, and helps me grow stronger without getting injured as often!
